Power for Good: Celebrating Kindness at Roedean

We celebrated Anti-Bullying Week with an energetic and inspiring Power Party led by Ms Orrells and Mrs Chamberlain, highlighting this year’s theme, Power for Good. The event brought students together to spread kindness, reflect on the impact of their actions, and strengthen the supportive, caring community that makes Roedean so special.

For Anti-Bullying Week, Ms Orrells and Mrs Chamberlain brought an incredible burst of energy with their Power Party, a lively celebration to mark Anti-Bullying Week and its inspiring theme, Power for Good.

The event gave students a chance to come together, spread kindness, and strengthen the sense of community that makes Roedean so special. Everyone was encouraged to use their power for good in creative and meaningful ways.

Students wrote heartfelt “Make it Right” letters to peers, little notes to mend fences, or simple reminders that someone matters. Others sent compliments or thank-you cards to brighten a friend’s day. These small acts carried big messages about care, respect, and thoughtfulness.

The celebration also included Intention Pledges, where students reflected on how they could make Roedean an even kinder, more supportive place:

  • Include someone new
  • Speak up or get help if I see bullying
  • Listen before I speak
  • Use kind words online

The positive energy continued with a treat-decorating session, where students adorned cakes and cookies with power words like courage, kindness, respect, and joy. A lively playlist kept the room buzzing, turning the event into a joyful reminder that words and actions hold real power, the power to make others feel seen, valued, and supported.

At Roedean, pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do. Our Pastoral Managers are available every day to provide support, advice, encouragement, and practical help. In addition, we recently appointed a new group of peer listeners, students who provide a friendly and confidential space for other students who need someone to talk to. These trained senior students help create a safe and welcoming environment, promoting well being across the school community.

Some of our new peer listeners shared their reasons for taking on this role:

“I believe, even the littlest of worries affect everyone’s involvement in the classroom and out, so I want to help you out, have good chats and be a friendly and familiar face in the corridor and around school.” – Megs

“I want to make a positive difference to all the younger students here today. Having someone like me who had sat in the very same seats you are in today, given that I have been here since Year 7, is uplifting and I really hope that I can make your time in this school more better and comfortable!” – Farwa

“As a peer listener, I want to contribute in making our school a supportive and encouraging place for everyone. Sometimes school, friendships, family, or boarding life can feel a bit overwhelming, and from my own experience as a full boarder joining in Y10, having a peer to talk to whenever needed could really help.” – Melissa

Anti-Bullying Week is a reminder that kindness is not just for one week. At Roedean, the Power for Good continues all year long, in every interaction, every day, and in every corner of the school community.
