Why Choose Boarding at Roedean

Boarding

Boarding  is at the heart of school life. Girls grow in confidence, build lifelong friendships, and discover their place in the world. They become part of a close-knit house family, living and learning alongside friends from across the world.

“A vibrant and nurturing community where every girl feels seen, known and heard.”

Flexible Boarding Options to Suit Every Family

We understand that every family’s needs are unique. That’s why we offer flexible boarding arrangements, including full, weekly, and flexi boarding. Whether girls choose to stay with us throughout the term, return home on weekends, or board occasionally to suit family schedules, they always enjoy the same warm, supportive community and vibrant boarding experience. This flexibility allows each girl to find the perfect balance between independence, family time, and school life.

A Sisterhood Across the Years

Our five boarding houses are warm, welcoming homes filled with laughter, friendship, and the unique bonds of sisterhood. In Houses 1–4, vertical boarding brings together girls from Years 7 to 12, creating a vibrant dynamic where younger students are inspired by older role models, and senior girls grow in confidence as leaders and mentors. For Year 13, Keswick House offers a distinctive experience: a close-knit final-year community where girls enjoy greater independence as they prepare for university life and the world beyond Roedean.

Pastoral Care Every Step of the Way

Pastoral care is at the very heart of boarding life at Roedean. Dedicated house staff work closely with Heads of Year, Tutors and Pastoral Managers to provide a seamless network of support. Every girl is known as an individual, with her wellbeing, personal growth, and academic success given equal priority.

Whether offering a listening ear, celebrating achievements, or guiding girls through challenges, the boarding team is a constant presence.

The Best of Both Worlds

Set within a beautiful 46 acre campus and overlooking the sea, Roedean provides an idyllic environment for students to flourish. The safe and secure campus offers peace of mind, while its close proximity to the vibrant city of Brighton gives teenage girls the perfect balance between calm country living and the buzz of urban life. Here, boarders enjoy the space and freedom to grow alongside easy access to a wealth of cultural and social opportunities beyond the school gates.

A Life Full of Opportunity

Boarding life at Roedean is rich and varied, with a thoughtfully planned programme of house activities, weekend trips, and social events. From cosy movie nights and baking in the house ODR to trips to London, theatre visits, and outdoor adventures, there is always something to inspire, challenge, and delight. It’s a life filled with fun, friendship, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Belonging and Mattering

Joining in is the key to a happy, fulfilling boarding experience. Social engagement helps girls find their place, make friends, and learn from those with different backgrounds. For some, the first step can be daunting, which is why our dedicated house staff ensure every student feels welcome from day one. Through introductions, activities, and a culture of kindness, they encourage boarders to get involved, try new things, and embrace house life, building confidence, connections, and a strong sense of belonging across the Roedean community.

Leadership Opportunities

Boarding life at Roedean offers countless opportunities to develop confidence and leadership within a supportive community. In Houses 1- 4, senior girls serve as House Captains, leading events, supporting staff, and ensuring every boarder feels valued. As role models, they embody the sisterhood at the heart of Roedean. In Year 12 and 13, many take on prefect roles, joining the school’s leadership team to support boarding life, pastoral care, and the wellbeing of their peers. These experiences equip students with empathy, resilience, and the confidence to lead—skills that last far beyond their time at Roedean.

“Roedean now has the swankiest boarding facilities in the country, perhaps in the universe.
