Congratulations to this year’s Roedean A Level cohort, who have achieved outstanding results again this summer, showcasing exceptional performances across a broad range of subjects.  The School is delighted that these results represent its strongest A Level outcomes in a decade, and these will provide an excellent springboard to leading universities and specialist institutions across the UK and abroad. 

A remarkable 58% of all grades were awarded A*-A, which is our students’ best performance at these grades in a decade, and the strongest since the current A Level specifications were reformed. Furthermore, A* grades make up almost one in four of all results. 81% of grades were A*-B, demonstrating the breadth and consistency of achievement across the cohort. Alongside these top grades, the School is immensely proud of all its students, and delighted for those who have significantly exceeded their expectations – these results will doubtless provide a stepping stone to further success after school. Roedean is equally proud of the strength of its students’ academic independence, and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) has produced excellent results, with 22 of the 29 students achieving A*-A grades. This success reflects the students’ ability to pursue sustained independent research, develop their own ideas and engage deeply with subjects beyond the confines of the A Level curriculum.

Five students achieved straight A* grades, while twenty-four, a quarter of the cohort, achieved all A*-A grades. The School is also celebrating four students who will take up Oxbridge places, where they will study Classics and English, Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, History and Politics, and Modern and Medieval Languages (Spanish and Italian). In addition, one student has also won a prestigious scholarship to a US university. Roedeanians are taking up places at US, Australian, Hong Kong, and European universities, while the most popular destinations in the UK are UCL (10), King’s College London (4), and Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Imperial College London, Manchester, St Andrew’s, and York, where three students will be taking up places.

Roedean’s renowned strength in STEM continues to be particularly evident in this year’s university destinations. Overall, 42% of this year’s leavers are pursuing STEM courses at university; fourteen students have secured places to study Medicine or Veterinary Medicine, and many others are heading off to study a diverse range of STEM disciplines, including Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, and Biotechnology. One student is pursuing Helicopter Aviation Apprenticeships in Australia. The School most certainly continues to buck the stereotype which says that ‘girls don’t do science’!

At the same time, this year’s results demonstrate that academic excellence at Roedean is not confined to traditional academic pathways. In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, students are also choosing to pursue areas where creativity, performance, imagination, and human connection remain uniquely powerful. Six students, for example, are progressing to specialist creative institutions and conservatoires, where they will study Voice, Fashion, Popular Music, Contemporary Dance, and Musical Sound Design.

“Congratulations to our A Level cohort on these exceptional results – it is particularly pleasing to see our strongest A*-A performance in a decade.  I am incredibly proud of every student and of the breadth of their achievements.  Their success is reflected not only in their outstanding grades, but also in the breadth of their wider educational experience which allow them to pursue their passions.  The girls do so much more than just their academic work, and it is this co-curricular counterpoint which creates space for intellectual success – this year alone, one student achieved four A* grades as well as RAD Advanced 2 Ballet with Distinction, another who has achieved three A* grades swam solo across the English Channel to France last summer, remarkably soon to be followed by one of her peers in September and a third has added three A*s to her two Performance Diplomas in Piano and Singing.  The cohort has done so well – they have developed skills and confidence through their time at Roedean which will serve them exceptionally well in the next stage of their lives.
