Dr. Sarah Black, our Assistant Head: Academic, recently celebrated an outstanding milestone with her graduation from the University of Bath. This achievement is a testament to her dedication and passion for education, and the ROedean community couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments. Dr Black also won the prestigious Jeff Thompson Award for Contribution to International Education, a recognition that highlights her significant impact in the field.

Dr. Black pursued a professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) at the University of Bath, a program that enabled her to balance work, teaching, and research. Her focus throughout her studies was on the history curriculum in international schools, with a particular emphasis on the process of decolonisation.

For Dr. Black, this graduation represents both a personal and professional milestone. Professionally, it marks the culmination of years of hard work and in-depth research. Personally, it was a moment to share her success with her family, especially her teenage children. After nine years of balancing the demands of study with family life, she is hopeful that her children now understand why their mother was often absorbed in her studies.

The Jeff Thompson Award for Contribution to International Education was a truly unexpected yet deeply meaningful recognition for Dr. Black. “It was the icing on the cake,” she says. “It is validating and reassuring to know that my research is viewed by others as relevant with the potential to bring about real changes in international education. It made it all worth it!”

Dr. Black’s achievements are a source of inspiration to us all. Her commitment to advancing education, particularly in international contexts, continues to have a lasting impact. We congratulate her once again on her graduation and the well-deserved recognition of her work.
