Learning Support and EAL

Lower School

Children learn at different rates and have individual needs.

Every girl brings her own strengths, experiences and ways of learning. We are committed to understanding and supporting each individual. The Learning Support and EAL departments both provide a personalised support for girls with additional learning needs or girls for whom English is an additional language, so that every girl can participate fully, grow in confidence and fulfil her potential.


Whatever the need, there is a collaborative approach, working with teachers, Heads of Year, house staff and tutors, ensuring that every student is supported and has the best chance of success.


EAL Support

Our EAL provision is tailored to the individual needs of each girl, with both small-group and individual lessons available as appropriate. Where needed, timetables are carefully adapted to accommodate additional English support, enabling girls to develop their language skills alongside the wider curriculum. Our focus is on building confidence, fluency and a strong academic foundation, preparing girls to thrive as they progress towards their GCSE years.

Learning Support

The Learning Support department enriches and extends the learning of all students in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and the Equality Act (2010).


Girls who experience difficulties accessing the curriculum are supported to reach their full potential through inclusive teaching and targeted small-group support. Where additional intervention is needed, we take a collaborative and individualised approach, drawing on assistive technology, specialist assessment and, where appropriate, external expertise in areas including dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism and ADHD. This ensures that each girl receives the support she needs to access learning with confidence and thrive.
