We are immensely proud to celebrate the achievements of the 31 Roedean students in Years 7 and 8 who participated in this year’s Junior Maths Challenge. This prestigious 60-minute, 25-question multiple-choice competition is run by the UK Mathematics Trust, a charity dedicated to inspiring a love of mathematics and encouraging problem-solving skills in young learners.

Our students performed exceptionally well, earning an impressive total of 19 awards, including:

• 7 Bronze
• 8 Silver
• 4 Gold

Special congratulations go to Cindy and Isabelle in Year 8 for earning Gold awards. A particular commendation goes to Desire in Year 7, who scored 101, placing her ten marks above the Gold threshold. Elianna in Year 8 achieved a remarkable score of 117, making her the Best in School. Both Desire and Elianna have qualified for the Junior Kangaroo Follow-On Round, an invitation-only competition taking place in June.

These achievements extend far beyond certificates and scores. They reflect the power and importance of a strong STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, particularly in a girls-only school environment. At Roedean, students are encouraged to lead, question, and explore, supported by dedicated teachers who nurture their potential.

STEM continues to be one of our core strengths, at Roedean:

• 46.7% of our 2024 leavers went on to study a STEM subject at university
• 73.3% of our current students take at least one STEM subject at A-level
• 27.3% are studying three STEM subjects at A-level
• 63.6% of all students who took a STEM subject in the last three years received either an A or A* in at least one of their STEM subjects.
