Sophie Pender-Cudlip and Amanda Constance, who led the selection process, consulted widely with teachers, parents, and pupils to identify the top senior schools. Roedean stood out for its extensive and impactful collaborations, both in the UK and internationally.
One of the most significant partnerships is our collaboration with Hope4, an NGO in Moldova dedicated to supporting women and children fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. Inspired by eight Ukrainian refugees who joined our school community, Roedean launched Project 125 Moldova. As part of this initiative, our students traveled to Moldova to volunteer in local schools and orphanages, teaching English and providing much-needed support. Roedean has committed to raising £5,000 annually for the next decade to continue supporting Moldovan students, creating a lasting impact.
Closer to home, Roedean’s dedication to community engagement is evident in initiatives like the Roedean Academy, where Year 10 students join forces with top academics from six local state schools for an enriching eight-week programme. Our Year 12 students also actively participate in the Community Action Programme (CAP), contributing their time and energy every Wednesday afternoon to local projects. Our Year 12 students actively engage in the CAP, dedicating their Wednesday afternoons to local projects that make a meaningful impact. One standout example is our long-standing partnership with St Mark’s Primary School in Brighton, which began in 2016. This collaboration has yielded significant benefits for both schools, including weekly enrichment activities at Roedean, lunchtime programmes every Wednesday, and the creation of a new library from the ground up. Additionally, our Year 9 students visit St Mark’s weekly as Reading Buddies, providing a safe and supportive environment where younger students can practice their reading skills.
At Roedean, we believe that the compassion, generosity, and social conscience fostered through these partnerships will stay with our students for life, shaping them into empathetic and engaged global citizens. We are incredibly proud of our community and the difference we are making together.
