Roedean is in the final to become Independent Girls’ School of the Year after making the shortlist for this prestigious national accolade.

It is the second time in four years the Brighton-based all-girls’ boarding school has reached the final shortlist in the category.

In its award submission the School, founded in 1885, explained: “While we prepare girls academically, we have always believed education extends far beyond the classroom.”

Students can access 120 activities per week, alongside Wild Fridays outdoors learning for Lower School, school productions, Bollywood workshops, cricket, British Sign Language, and practical medicine at its MeDeVet+ club.

“We’re very pleased to be on the shortlist again for this important award after going so close in 2022,” said Deputy Head and Director of Strategy and Innovation Dr John Hobbs.

“Embedding activities into the school week to ensure girls continue to explore their interests in a wide range of disciplines is just as important as academic success.

“We also know that preparing young women for the future means responding to a rapidly changing world. Our activities and academic work aim to build the skills to reflect that reality.

“It is heartening to see the judges recognise this and the hard work of staff and students. We look forward to finding out if we are successful next month alongside the five other excellent shortlisted schools.”

The winner in the girls’ school category will be announced at the Independent Schools of the Year 2026 awards ceremony.

It takes place in The Common Room at The Law Society,  Chancery Lane in London on 14 October.
