Since joining Roedean in Year 9, I’ve had so many opportunities to grow and improve as a dancer. Alongside my A level subjects (English Literature, Latin, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient Greek – all of which I absolutely adore!), I’ve also had the chance to take three to four hours of ballet lessons every week, as well as extra rehearsals for annual showcases and weekly sessions for dance scholars.
One of my favourite highlights has been performing a self-choreographed lyrical solo about Thetis, a figure from Greek mythology, which I found rewarding as a creative way of combining my dance experience with my academic interests! That also has to be the performance I have the fondest memories of, because I was lucky enough to be involved in nine numbers in the same show, allowing me to try out a range of dance styles I would never have been exposed to otherwise.
What I love most about dance at Roedean is the sense of community; without the support of my teachers and friends, I could never have rushed straight from performing at an Open Day to auditioning at the Royal Academy of Dance – where I also happen to be taking Saturday classes for Advanced 2 ballet every week now!
