Congratulations to the Roedean Year 11s, who have achieved outstanding results at GCSE level, following on from last week’s excellent A Level grades. The School is hugely proud of these students’ fantastic achievements, particularly as so many have complemented their academic success with excellence in other areas of school life, underlining Roedean’s holistic approach to education.

More than a third of all grades awarded to the cohort were Grade 9, the highest possible GCSE grade, and the elite top grade was the most common grade by far. Almost three quarters of the grades achieved were at Grades 9-7, which equates to the old A*-A, demonstrating the exceptional academic performance of the year-group.

The School is incredibly proud of those who have outperformed expectations, often through sheer hard work and determination, sometimes in the face of adversity. The School is also especially proud of two students who joined Roedean four years ago after fleeing Ukraine, and both have achieved excellent grades, a remarkable testament to their resilience and conscientious approach.

Well done to the cohort, who approached their examinations with a positive, can-do attitude, and there can be no doubt that this is reflected in their results. One in three students achieved a clean sweep of Grades 9-7, while one in five achieved all Grades 9-8. Three remarkable students achieved straight Grade 9s – two achieved nine Grade 9s, and another was awarded Grade 9 in each of her eleven subjects. Furthermore, one student achieved 100% in English Language GCSE, which is exceptional.

“I am delighted and proud that the girls have performed so well in their GCSEs. Their grades are their well-deserved reward for working so hard for the last two years. Even more importantly, they have maintained wide and varied interests and activities, which have provided an important counterpoint at what can, for some, be a stressful time. The girls continued to play sport, perform in concerts, and follow their passions, and I feel certain that this broad experience in Year 11 helped them to excel at GCSE.

These results reflect not only academic focus and diligence, but also the confidence, resilience, and breadth that we seek to develop at Roedean. I am hugely grateful to my colleagues who have prepared the Year 11s so well and supported them throughout their GCSE journey. Every student should be immensely proud of what she has achieved, and I have no doubt that these results will provide an excellent foundation for success in the Sixth Form and beyond.”
