We encourage girls to embrace academic challenge and pursue excellence beyond the classroom through a wide range of subject-based competitions and Olympiads. From Mathematics Challenges and Biology Olympiads to Chemistry competitions, essay prizes and independent research projects, these opportunities enable girls to deepen their knowledge, develop critical thinking skills and cultivate the confidence to test themselves at the highest level.
Futures and Careers programme encourages girls to explore their strengths, interests and ambitions as they begin to consider the pathways available to them. Through personalised guidance, careers education, guest speakers, workplace experiences and one-to-one support, girls develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to make informed choices about GCSEs, Sixth Form and their future beyond Roedean.
Our weekly programme of academic lectures, open to all girls, offers a diverse and thought-provoking range of topics designed to challenge perspectives, stimulate curiosity and broaden intellectual horizons. Delivered by visiting speakers, Roedean staff and scholars, these lectures provide a valuable opportunity for girls to engage with subjects beyond the curriculum and discover new areas of interest. Recent topics have included The Unravelling of the Versailles Treaty, What is Poetry? (featuring Soviet poetry), Postmodernist Thought and Big Numbers.
Girls in the Upper School have the opportunity to be mentored by an Old Roedeanian, giving them access to invaluable first-hand career guidance, industry insights and the experiences of those who have successfully navigated their own professional journeys.
Residentials and educational trips are an integral part of the Roedean experience, giving girls the opportunity to explore new cultures, landscapes and perspectives while enriching their academic learning. Whether visiting historical landmarks, undertaking fieldwork, collaborating with international schools or experiencing the arts in a new setting, these experiences encourage curiosity, independence and a deeper understanding of the world.
