Former Farm Manager and pupil

Getting the girls involved in the Farm is truly special. Seeing the girls grow in confidence and knowledge on the Farm is very rewarding.

Meet Holly, Farm Manager and former pupil

When did you join Roedean?
“I joined Roedean in September 2015 in Year 7, before the Farm even existed!”

What is your favourite memory of being at school at Roedean?
“Coming up to the Farm every single lunchtime with the other Farm Prefects and learning how to care for the animals – with amazing views! Naming the animals was fun, and lambing season is my favourite time of the year at the Farm.”

You’re now a member of staff…if only for a year! Explain what you do.
“I look after the Farm every day of the week – even weekends! I make sure the animals are fed, happy and healthy. During Farm Club I teach the girls how to properly look after the different animals and make sure they have fun too. When I’m not at the Farm, I’m helping in the Admissions Department or off on exciting trips with the Year 7 ‘Wild Friday’ groups.”

What do gain from the experience of working on the Farm?
“I love being able to work closely with animals I have known for many years in such a unique location. Getting girls involved in the Farm is truly special. Seeing the girls grow in confidence and knowledge is very rewarding and reassures me that the Farm will always be in safe hands! Observing the animal’s individual personalities and how they interact with each other is also really fascinating!”

What might be in store for you next?
Roedean Farm has certainly inspired me and my career. I have a place at Harper Adams University in Shropshire to study Rural Enterprise and Land Management, which will include a year in industry and will cover Valuation and Estate Management; Animal Production (Land Management); Farming Systems and the Environment; Planning and Development and Farm Business Management.”
