House Spirit

School Life

House Teams are a foundational aspect of life at Roedean, with the four main houses (1-4) forming our iconic building.

Every girl (boarding and day) is placed in a house team and competes in a wide range of weekly competitions and events, hoping to be crowned victorious at the end of each term. Even Roedean’s older girls (accommodated in the senior houses, Lawrence House and Keswick) are assigned to a house team.

The first event of each academic year is House Shout, where girls, along with their Housemistress, House Team Champions and House Captains, work hard to write and perform chants and songs to build team spirit.

Each House has its own colour and mascot. The interior decoration of each House aligns to the House’s colour. At each of the House competitions, the girls dress up in their respective house colours, adorning tutus, glitter, face paint and more. This tradition and celebration all contributes to strengthening the school community, and the bonds of friendship and school sisterhood.
