Five students achieved straight A* grades, while twenty-four, a quarter of the cohort, achieved all A*-A grades. We are also celebrating four students who will take up Oxbridge places, where they will study Classics and English, Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, History and Politics, and Modern and Medieval Languages (Spanish and Italian). In addition, one student has also won a prestigious scholarship to a US university.
Roedeanians are taking up places at US, Australian, Hong Kong, and European universities, while the most popular destinations in the UK are UCL (10), King’s College London (4), and Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Imperial College London, Manchester, St Andrew’s, and York, where three students will be taking up places.
Well done to Ellen, who joined Roedean in Year 7 and has achieved A*AB in Politics, Music, and French. She discovered a talent and a passion for music at School, and has sung and played the Trumpet in almost every music ensemble in her time here, including playing the Last Post on Remembrance Days, and her farewell performance was singing in Delibes’ iconic Flower Duet at Speech Day. The progress she has made over the years is outstanding, and in the Sixth Form she chose to pursue study in Voice and will be taking up a place at the Royal Academy of Music. ‘Roedean was amazing in supporting me in this journey in deciding to study Music at a Conservatoire. I was in choirs, orchestras, and able to perform in the Brighton Festival Fringe Concert which helped me to move into my next stage of development at Conservatoire.‘ Good luck at the Royal Academy, Ellen!
Well done to Rida, whose excellent A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics, along with an A* for her EPQ, have helped her to realise her to realise her long-held dream of studying Medicine. She begins her undergraduate studies at Queen Mary University of London in September, and we have no doubt that she will be a roaring success. ‘I think being Academic Deputy Head Girl has been really rewarding and I’ve been able to give back to the school community. Having been at Roedean since Year 7, the School has really helped me grow, and it’s been such a fun journey. I am really sad to leave after all this time, but I’m excited for what comes next too!‘ From representing the School on the Hockey pitch, to leading MeDeVet+ Society, volunteering in the Library, and acting in productions, she has done so much – good luck, Rida!
Roedean’s renowned strength in STEM continues to be particularly evident in this year’s university destinations.
Overall, 42% of this year’s leavers are pursuing STEM courses at university; fourteen students have secured places to study Medicine or Veterinary Medicine, and many others are heading off to study a diverse range of STEM disciplines, including Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, and Biotechnology. One student is pursuing Helicopter Aviation Apprenticeships in Australia. Roedean continues to buck the stereotype which says that ‘girls don’t do science’!
Congratulations to Orange, who has been awarded A grades in Art and Photography, and a B grade in Chinese. These grades are all the more extraordinary, since she had to transfer to Roedean halfway through her Sixth Form years, after her school unfortunately closed. Moving schools at such a pivotal time in her education was daunting, but we are delighted that she has been so successful. She said, ‘Looking back on my time at Roedean, it still feels a little like a dream. When I first joined the Art Department, I was nervous and not very confident in sharing my ideas, but my teachers encouraged me to speak up and develop them. I will always remember their kindness and support. I wish all the students at Roedean all the best and hope Roedean continues to grow and thrive.‘ Good luck at Edinburgh, Orange!
Well done to Clara, our Sports Prefect, who is delighted to have achieved straight A* grades in A Level Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. With lots of experience under her belt with farm animals already, as well as being a stalwart of the School’s Farm on-site, she was incredibly focused on her goal of studying Veterinary Medicine at university. With these outstanding grades, she is excited to start her degree at Nottingham University in just two months‘ time. Not only a talented academic, Clara discovered a passion for sea swimming at Roedean – ‘I have been at Roedean since Year 7, and have really enjoyed doing sport here, particularly sea-swimming, which is something which makes the School really special for me!‘. Having successfully completed a relay cross Channel swim with five peers in 2022, she undertook the remarkable challenge of swimming solo to France last summer – she did it in just under 13 hours! With her academic calibre, coupled with the focus and determination required to do that, she will go far! Good luck!
This year’s results demonstrate that academic excellence at Roedean is not confined to traditional academic pathways.
In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, students are also choosing to pursue areas where creativity, performance, imagination, and human connection remain uniquely powerful.
Six students, for example, are progressing to specialist creative institutions and conservatoires, where they will study Voice, Fashion, Popular Music, Contemporary Dance, and Musical Sound Design.
Congratulations to Head Girl, Lydia, who will be heading to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, in October to being her degree in Modern and Medieval Languages (Spanish and Italian). She achieved excellent A* grades in A Level Classical Civilisation, Mathematics, and Spanish, along with an A* for her EPQ. Her Roedean journey began seven years ago, and she has achieved so much in that time, including being selected to go to Moldova for our annual transformational trip to teach English to Ukrainian refugees – she said, ‘Some highlights of my Roedean experience have been playing Jane in Jane Eyre, playing for the 1st XI Hockey, being Head Girl of course, and also making such a fantastic group of friends and having the best time ever here!‘ As someone who thrives under pressure, she will relish the challenge Cambridge presents, and will, no doubt, throw herself everything with fantastic energy – good luck, Lydia!
Congratulations to Head Girl, Chaya, who achieved A*AB in A Level Politics, English Literature, and Philosophy. During her gap year, she will be volunteering in India and working at Westminster, as a break before university. Having won a prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship, she will take up her place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in August 2027, where she will be studying Liberal Arts. ‘I’ve had such a great time at Roedean, and I’ll miss all the staff and my friends now that we’re all moving on. I’m so excited for everything to come and I can’t wait to start the next chapter!‘ Chaya threw herself into so many aspects of school life, from academic to boarding to co-curricular, and this will, no doubt, stand her in great stead for her exciting next step – good luck!
Academic success is just one part of the Roedean Sixth Form experience. Paying tribute to our founding sisters’ ethos, our students also excel in sport, drama, music, and charitable work, developing as confident leaders and role models for younger girls.
Congratulations to Claire, from Brighton, who has achieved a string of truly exceptional A Level grades – she has been awarded A* grades at A Level in Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation, English Literature, and Latin, along with an A* for her EPQ. She fell in love with the classical world and languages from Year 9, but what makes her achievement even more remarkable is that she learnt Ancient Greek in her spare time and she achieved 92% at A Level! In October, she will start her degree in Classics and English Literature at St Anne’s College, Oxford, where she will thrive. ‘I am elated with my grades, and I’m going to miss Roedean so much – being able to do so much dance alongside my A Levels is an opportunity that I will cherish forever!‘ Claire was recently awarded Distinction in her RAD Advanced 2 Ballet examination, which is the equivalent of a First–Year Dance degree recital – an outstanding achievement. Congratulations to Olivia, who has achieved three A grades at A Level in Geography, Politics, and Philosophy, along with an A at EPQ. With these excellent results, she will take up her place at Exeter University in September to read Law. This has been a goal for her for a number of years, and she successfully ran the School’s Law Society throughout Year 12. She has thrown herself into a variety of activities over her seven years at Roedean, including performing in the Theatre and getting involved in lots of charity fund-raising work, but her highlight was taking part in our annual trip to Moldova where we teach English to Ukrainian refugee children. Olivia said, ‘I was lucky enough to have the chance to go to Moldova last year, and I think that really made my Roedean journey. It doesn’t feel real to be leaving, I have been here since year 7, so it just feels like I’m going to come back in September.‘ Good luck at Exeter, Olivia!
The Roedean Sixth Form is more than a place to prepare for exams. It is a launchpad to a future without limits. Through outstanding teaching, personalised guidance, and an environment that fosters both independence and community, our students leave ready to lead, inspire, and make a difference on the world stage.
Well done to Lucy, who is delighted that all her hard work has paid off in her excellent A*A*B grades at A Level in French, Theatre Studies, and English Literature. Alongside these results and the top-level ice-skating she has pursued out of school, Lucy has thrown herself into so many aspects of school life over the years: ‘I feel incredibly grateful for the many opportunities and experiences that I encountered, from taking on my Head of School Team position to completing my Grade 8 LAMDA with Distinction, all whilst enriching myself academically. I feel like these experiences have helped me grow into a much more rounded and confident person, and have given me so much to be proud of beyond just my results. I’m now really excited to take everything I’ve learnt with me into the next chapter and head to Canada as a Roedean alumna!‘
Well done to Vanessa, who has achieved A*AA in A Level Geography, Biology, and Chemistry, exactly the grades she needed to take up her place at Glasgow University to study Medicine. She is delighted to be able to pursue her dream, but she is also a talented musician, having achieved the ARSM Performance Diploma on the Harp with Distinction, and it was wonderful to hear her fantastic performance of Gliere’s Harp Concerto at the Brighton Festival Fringe Concert this year. She said, ‘I really enjoyed my time at Roedean, and I am especially grateful that I was able to pursue music as much as I did alongside my academics. I have to thank my teachers for all the wonderful opportunities! I am excited and anxious in equal parts about the next stage, but I am looking forward to a new chapter of my life in university.’
