Beyond Roedean

Sixth Form

Not only have the Class of 2023 been successful academically, but they have also thrown themselves into so many other areas of school life and made a difference both within our community and beyond.

Year 13 Results

The Class of 2023 have achieved remarkable A Level results, with 28.2% of all grades at A*, and 55.5% at A*-A.

Nine students, 10% of the cohort, achieved straight A* grades, with 29 top grades between them, and almost one third of the students were awarded all A* and A Grades.  Underlining their calibre, over half of the year-group were awarded at least one A* grade, and the percentage of grades at A* far exceeds all previous results excluding the Covid years – there is no doubt that they are the product of outstanding diligence and commitment to success.

Top Results for Sabina from Moldova

Congratulations to Sabina, who has achieved A*A*A in A Level Maths,  Physics, and Chemistry. She joined the Sixth Form two years ago as an exceptional HMC East European  Scholar, and these remarkable exam results confirm her impressive academic  calibre. In the Autumn, she will begin her undergraduate studies at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems in Austria, where she is reading Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. After finishing her exams and returning home, Sabina joined Roedean’s Project 125 Moldova group in her capital city, where we taught English for a week to Ukrainian refugee and underprivileged Moldovan children, and she was an amazing support to the group – she is also now volunteering with the NGO we worked with.

She will go far!

Gabby’s Going to Cambridge

Congratulations to Gabby, who has achieved A*A*A in History, Politics, and Spanish, as well as an A* in her EPQ. In   October, she will be starting her undergraduate course in  History and Politics at Peterhouse College, Cambridge. She said, ‘I woke up and read some scare-mongering headline about poor results, and my computer wouldn’t load, so I thought I was in clearing! I am so pleased, particularly about Spanish, and I can’t wait to start at Cambridge.’ Not only is she a remarkable academic, but she also loves drama, and she will definitely throw herself into university life – good luck, Gabby!

“I am really excited to go to a specialist art college in London.  I’m glad everything came together in the end, and it’s great to see all my friends doing so well.”

Top Grades and History at Bristol for Sarah

Well done to Sarah, one of last year’s Head Girls, who has achieved an A* in History A Level, an A in Geography, and a B in Philosophy, along with an A* for her EPQ. These amazing results, including only losing 16 marks overall in History, mean that she is moving on to study  History with a year abroad at Bristol University. She joined the Sixth Form at Roedean two years ago from Zimbabwe, and it was clear straight away that she was going to make her mark – she is incredibly hard-working, but she also sang in the choir and had an impressive ability for public speaking. As well as this, Sarah was instrumental in the success of the Amnesty International work at Roedean.

We have no doubt that she has a bright future – good luck!

Sylva’s Going to Leeds to Study Medicine

‘Happy, surprised, elated, shocked, lucky, so grateful!’ This was Sylva’s response to her outstanding A Level results, but they are certainly not the result of luck – she worked incredibly hard and fully deserves her success! She has been awarded A* grades in Biology and Geography, an A grade in Chemistry, and a B in Maths. With these grades, she will begin her degree in Medicine at Leeds University. Sylva has had an academic focus since she joined Roedean in Year 7, but she also combined this with playing in the 1st VII for Netball and getting involved with so many activities at School – she has given so much.

Congratulations, and good luck for the future.
