Hot off the heels of last week’s outstanding A Level results, Roedean’s GCSE students have achieved astounding results – 47.4% of all grades were awarded at the highest Grade 9.  These results make it a double first for Roedean, with the best ever A Level and GCSE results in the same year.

1260 GCSEs were taken and 597 were awarded at Grade 9, which equates to an A** grade, according to the previous grading system.  Overall, 85.3%of all examinations were awarded Grades 9-7, equivalent to A*-A, which is an exceptional achievement for the girls.  Not only are these results unprecedented, but this is the School’s largest ever cohort, with over 130 students, underlining the students’ strength in depth.

The breadth of the students’ success is remarkable, and we are delighted with the high proportion of students who achieved the very highest grades:  particular congratulations go to the forty students who achieved 7 or more Grade 9s, to the nineteen students who achieved 9 or more Grade 9s, and to the exceptional eleven students who were awarded 10 or more Grade 9s, with 116 between them!

‘On behalf of Roedean, I would like to congratulate this year group, who we know have had their education over the last 2 years heavily disrupted by Covid.  Given that context, they have performed exceptionally well, and shown remarkable determination, dedication, and resilience to perform at the highest level.’

However, it is important to remember that it isn’t just examination results which matter. The fact that two members of this year group swam in the cross-Channel relay in the middle of their exams is an example of how rounded Roedean students are, but there are also very many examples of exceptional commitment to sport, dance, drama, art, music, and community activities across this year group.  They have really shown that it is possible to contribute widely to the School while also realising their very high academic aspirations.
